Quartermaster Advanced with National Food Safety Certification Exam (Scouts Canada, Camp Samac, Ontario)

Quartermaster workshop is being offered in conjunction with the Wood Badge II and you are invited to participate. Participants will have the opportunity to learn and develop several skills including menu planning, food purchasing, safe food handling, sanitation, food preparation and how to do food services in a variety of settings (indoor, outdoor) with limited or full equipment. Participants will gain hands-on experience, theoretical, and will have the opportunity to network with other Scouters. The Quartermaster workshop lead facilitator is professor Derek Lawday, Canadore College Chef and School of Culinary Arts.

The workshops are spread out over 2 weekends at Camp Samac (Oshawa, Ontario). Participants will gain hands-on experience in preparing and serving food, and proper sanitation in an indoor kitchen environment during the first weekend. The second weekend will allow for more discussion about different environments (outdoor, backwoods, etc.), various types of equipment, advanced menu planning and more. There will be assignments between the weekends as well. ​​

Quartermaster advanced workshop details

You will participate in several theory sessions and gain hands-on experience in a Quartermaster environment for the Wood Badge II program which will be running at the same time. There will be assignments that will require individual study in between the 2 weekends.  Also included in the registration fee is the National Food Safety exam fee, successful participants will be awarded the National Food Safety Certification.  Workshop topics include:

Regular rate $225 after February 15, 2022

Workshop fee includes all materials, accommodations for the 2 weekends, food, National Food Safety exam fee, crest, QM flash, and certificate.

The workshop is open to all registered Scouts Canada Scouters.
First weekend participants will bring their own tent, (limited indoor space for those with medical requirements).
